Jaylon Smith Film Evaluation

Scout.com: "Rare athlete with excellent change of direction, speed and fluidity. Excels in space and can cover like a defensive back, but also does a great job as a speed rusher off the edge. Still has to get stronger and do a better job of taking on and shedding blocks. However, his combination of length and athleticism makes him a top end prospect and one that can play multiple roles within a defense."

Strengths
In his ability to rush the passer and drop into pass coverage, Smith is a player that is not currently on Notre Dame's roster. He is a perfect fit for the Drop/Dog outside linebacker position. He shows elite and rare speed for his position. In addition, in making the tackle, he strikes with form and power. His instincts will remind Irish fans of current linebacker Manti Te'o.

Weaknesses
When watching Smith on film, one thing is apparent. He looks like a safety playing linebacker. At 6'3'' 220 lbs, Smith needs to add about 30 to 35 pounds. In addition, he seems to have a lot of free reign in his Defense. How will he respond to doing an assignment?
