Jamel James Film Evaluation

Jamel James Highlights

Scout.com: "James is definitely a power back. He rarely goes down on first contact. He is strong and keeps his feet moving and that allows him to shed weak tackles with ease. He has good vision and balance and picks his holes wisely. He plays against tough competition and while you would not describe his running style as speedy he is quick in the hole, and that combined with the rest of his skill set allows him to break big plays."

Strengths
The level of competition James plays against is the first thing that jumps off the board. For his Sophomore and Junior years, he gained over 1,000 yards in each year. James played in an offense that is very similar to Notre Dame's at Cinco Ranch. On the field, James runs with power and tenacity. When he hits the hole quickly, he takes it to the house. He is versatile. He possesses the ability to run, block and catch the ball. He could be on the field all three downs in various formations and situations.

Weaknesses
James simply lacks breakaway speed. That is the only thing separating him and the elite Running Backs of this year's class. It is questionable whether or not James would be able to start at Notre Dame or if he would only be used situationally similar to Robert Hughes. Regardless, he was a good offer and could be a valuable tool in the future.
