Steve Elmer Film Evaluation

Scout.com: "A big kid, not just in height, but also in bulk. Moves very well for someone of his size. He changes directions and runs with ease and has the ability to bend. Shows great coordination in space and can pull and play in the second level. Has shown to be comfortable in pass protection where his feet and long frame are assets. Needs to work on playing meaner consistently and finishing his blocks strong."

Strengths
The first thing that jumps off the screen about Elmer is his excellent size and frame. Although it appears he has room to rework his body, he will have not problem becoming a prototypical NFL prospect as far as his size and frame. Elmer's footwork is also quite admirable for his experience. As seen in the clip above, he demonstrates an excellent ability to move laterally in pass blocking. Elmer moves well on screens and pulls. He also shows an ability to get to the second level. He is a solid run blocker.

Weaknesses
Elmer appears to have issues with playing with leverage. Occasionally, he has problems engaging the defender when his pad level is too high. This is a typical problem for an athlete who is 6'6'' playing against 5'9'' and 5'10'' opponents. This will probably not be an issue for Elmer in college. A few reports have questioned his "nastiness" or "mean-streak". This is very difficult to assess from a highlight film.
