Notre Dame hosted its first Junior Day of the young recruiting season. The Irish brought in Ty Issac, Jacob Matuska, Jaylon Smith and Keeon Johnson.
Ty Issac
Issac has visited Notre Dame several times including this past weekend. Notre Dame needs an explosive athlete like Issac to build depth at the Running Back position. However, the Irish will have a lot of competition to get a commitment from Issac. Currently, he is believed to be a Michigan lean with USC also heavily involved. However, Notre Dame has placed themselves firmly in the competition for his services.
Jacob Matuska
According to many reports, Matuska grew up a Notre Dame fan. He has many big time offers such Michigan and Oklahoma but lacks an offer from hometown Ohio State. It is unclear what position he would play at Notre Dame but linebacker, defensive end or tight end.
Jaylon Smith
Smith is needed to fill Manti Te'o shoes. Notre Dame is considered to be his leader. He does have a connection with his brother who plays at Ohio State. Smith had a great visit over the weekend to Notre Dame and will likely return for a practice and the Blue-Gold game.
Keeon Johnson
Johnson visited Notre Dame for the first time this weekend. From all reports, the visit went well. Notre Dame will need to get Johnson back on campus in order to seal the deal.
