Shumate Selects Notre Dame at U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Elijah Shumate, a 4-Star safety from Don Bosco Prep, picked Notre Dame over South Carolina and Rutgers. This selection was what everyone expected today. Shumate had fallen in love with Notre Dame following his visit to South Bend in mid-December. Since then, Notre Dame has been considered his favorite.

According to his player evaluation on Scout.com, he possesses great closing speed, has great size and tackling ability. At Don Bosco, Shumate played linebacker. He will need to transition and improve his coverage skills to compete as a safety at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame will now move to adding a few more commitments. One target that Shumate can help with is top cornerback Yuri Wright. There was a lot of speculation that Notre Dame would receive a commitment from Wright this weekend but he decided not to make a decision.
