Lofty Expectations For 2011

After closing the season with four solid victories, they expectations quickly rose for the Notre Dame football program. In addition Brian Kelly hauled in one of best recruiting classes in the past 25 years. Now, expectations are beginning to go off the charts for Notre Dame's 2011 season and not just from Irish fans. These expectations are coming from those preseason prognosticators who are almost always never correct (Let's hope their luck changes this season).

Athlon Sports recently unveiled their 2011 preseason ranking with Notre Dame coming in at #6. They predict double-digit wins and a BCS birth for the Irish. Although this is definitely possible, this is probably a high-expectation for the Irish team (Let's hope it's actually a low-expectation).

Athlon has taken notice of the defensive recovery of Notre Dame and the potential of the offensive side of the ball. They have definitely done their homework more than their counterparts at ESPN like Kurt Herbstreit during their so-called "Roundtable".

Athlon predicts Michael Floyd, Manti Te'o and Darius Fleming to be top performers for the Irish in 2011.
