Reports: Prized DE Recruit Tuitt Back To Irish

By Brian Hamilton

Take your Dramamine immediately. The rollicking, unpredictable, dizzying ride that is Notre Dame recruiting this month reportedly has made another hairpin swerve.

This one comes in the form of multiple reports stating that prized five-star defensive end Stephon Tuitt -- who rescinded an oral commitment to Notre Dame in favor of Georgia Tech on Tuesday -- has flipped yet again and returned to the Irish fold.

A reported Wednesday night home visit with Irish coach Brian Kelly, defensive coordinator Bob Diaco and recruiting coordinator Chuck Martin apparently did the trick to bring Rivals.com's No. 22 overall prospect back.

"I feel like I got some things off my chest," Tuitt told Irish Sports Daily. "Some things about the college and some of the little things and big things. They answered all my questions. I finally have some closure. I'm 100 percent."
The South Bend Tribune and Irish Illustrated also are reporting Tuitt's second change of heart in a week.

If this one holds, then the impact is fairly clear: Notre Dame has put together one of the best defensive line recruiting classes in its history.

Tuitt would join fellow top 30 defenders Ishaq Williams and Aaron Lynch to form a formidable front in the coming years, with Kelly and Co. landing the sort of impact defenders that Irish staffs have failed to secure in recent years.

It also represents an amazing close by the Irish staff: Williams' commitment was secured by a 4:30 a.m. home visit from Diaco, while Lynch was pried away from Florida State after he, too, had previously committed to the Irish and then moved on.

Williams and Lynch already are enrolled at Notre Dame, ending that melodrama. Now it's a matter of holding onto the pledge from the 6-foot-5, 260-pound Tuitt until Signing Day on Feb. 2.
