Commentary: Irish Perform in Draft, Not on Field

Four Notre Dame players were selected in the 2012 NFL. Michael Floyd was selected 13th by the Arizona Cardinals. The Minnesota Vikings picked Harrison Smith late in the first round. Blanton and Fleming were both 5th Round selections.

The two first-round selections were the first for Notre Dame since 1994. Notre Dame obviously had a  major drought since having this type of talent on their team. How did they compare to the nation's elite?

Alabama: 3 first round selections, 8 overall

LSU: 2 first round selections, 5 overall

Oklahoma State: 2 first round selections, 3 overall

Stanford: 2 first round selections, 4 overall

With the exception of Alabama, these numbers are very similar to Notre Dame. But, these teams finished in the top 5 in the country. Notre Dame failed to perform with top talent on the field last year. Does this mean that Kelly failed to coach this team properly? Or just another demonstration of what a quarter back would have done for this ball club?
