Which Freshman Make the Field For Notre Dame in 2012?

Definitely
Tee Shepard-Shepard will undoubtedly play and possibility start as a Freshman. Shepard is arguably one of the best Cornerbacks in the country of the 2012 class. Shepard is enrolling early. With the open competition at his position, Shepard will undoubtedly play if not start in 2012.

Possibly
Gunner Kiel-Kiel has the opportunity to start against Navy as a Freshman. However, all three Quarterbacks currently on campus have more knowledge and experience in the offense. This lowers Kiel's likelihood of getting on the field as a Freshman.

William Mahone-Mahone is a great compliment to what Notre Dame has on campus currently. Mahone is a power He could possibly be used in the same role as Robert Hughes in 2010. His playing time depends on whether Theo Riddick moves back to Wide Receiver or not.

Sheldon Day-Sheldon Day could work his way into the mix with the Defensive Line along with Louis Nix, Stephon Tuitt and Tony Springmann. Day has definitely shown the potential be able to play as a Freshman. He will need to work hard in the weight room as an early enrollee.

Elijah Shumate-Shumate is physically ready to play. He also is at a position where he will be able to compete. Shumate should get at least some playing time at Strong Safety behind Zeke Motta or Jamoris Slaughter.

KeiVarae Russell-Russel's playing time depends on what position he will play this fall, Slot Receiver or Running Back. If Russell plays Slot Receiver, he will have an opportunity to compete for a position this fall.

Nicky Baratti-Baratti, like Shumate, is probably physically ready to play college football. Baratti is at a position of need. Baratti could see a lot of playing time at Strong Safety.

Justin Ferguson-Ferguson has played against good competition and the most ready to play of all the Wide Receivers. He is in a position of great need. Ferguson could play a lot at one of the outside Wide Receiver positions if Goodman, Daniels or Jones cannot fulfill that role.

Scott Daly-Daly is the best long snappers in the country for the class of 2012. Notre Dame currently has Jordan Cowart but Daly could beat him out for certain situations such as Punt Return and Field Goal teams.

Probably Not
Ronnie Stanley-Notre Dame does not have an opening along the Offensive Line that Stanley could fill. He may have an opportunity to compete at the Right Tackle position but Notre Dame has several qualified candidates to fill that position.

Jarron Jones-Jones definitely has the tools to be a great player at Notre Dame but he has a lot to prove. Jones is very raw and will need time to rework his body in the weight room. Jones will be an excellent player at Notre Dame, just probably not in 2012.

Chris Brown-Brown has the tools to be an elite Wide Receiver. He possesses elite 4.3 to 4.4, above average size and excellent ball skills. However, Brown is extremely raw and not well seasoned. He will need good coaching to become an effective talent.

Romeo Okwara-Okwara is only 16 years old and will be 17 years old when he arrives on campus. He definitely will physically mature and probably grow into a Defensive End. Okwara is already 6'5'' 240 lbs. He could be huge by the time he is a Junior or Senior.

Mark Harrell-Harrell, despite his 3-star ranking, had several SEC rankings. Harrell will need time to adjust to playing Center. He played Tight End in high school. He definitely needs time to develop and a position to open up.

CJ Prosise-Prosise is an extremely athletic and raw football player. He also needs time to develop into a solid Free Safety. Prosise could see playing time at the Free Safety position but it seems like it will take more than this year.

John Turner-Turner is probably has the most to prove of any recruit in the 2012 class. There are many people who doubt that he should have received the offer from Notre Dame. However, Turner will have time to develop into an excellent safety down the road.
