On Saturday, Notre Dame defeated USC handily. Every recruit made it into South Bend and had a fantastic visit. Even a few star recruits committed to play football next fall in Notre Dame Stadium. Then Notre Dame fans woke up to the reality that Notre Dame lost to USC 31 to 17. Some recruits liked it and others did not. To add injury to insult Notre Dame is being humiliated by USC players saying Notre Dame quit.
Notre Dame falls to 4-3. With the loss, Notre Dame is out of contention for a BCS bid. It is unclear where Notre Dame will end up. Could the Irish make it to 9-3? Possibly 8-4? What if the Irish lose to Navy or Wake Forest? The history seemed ready to be written on Saturday until Notre Dame lost to USC.
The recruiting weekend lacked a big result that many were looking for. However, it is hard to know how well or not well Kelly and his staff did this weekend. Running Back Byron Marshall dropped Notre Dame from consideration over the weekend. Other recruits who visited gave lots of mixed signals.
Notre Dame somehow is seemingly continuing to lose this game. Today, USC QB Matt Barkley said that Notre Dame quit in the 4th Quarter. This follows comment by other USC players who retracted their statements. Although it is quite classless, it just adds to the pain for Notre Dame this weekend.
